Note Required for a Change in Dismissal Plans: Students should be reminded that after-school plans must be made ahead of time, at home, before coming to school. On any day that a child’s routine transportation plans are altered, for any reason, a note must be written and signed by a parent or guardian and sent into the classroom teacher to describe the change. Occasionally an emergency situation arises during the day that necessitates a change. If such an emergency should arise and it is necessary to change your child’s transportation plans during the school day, please contact the office by phone (781-270-1721) before your child’s scheduled lunchtime to ensure that his or her teacher receives the information.
(Do not call the teacher directly, or email requests, as these messages may not be received before the end of the day.) Please understand that due to the busy-ness of dismissal time and our concern about student safety, students cannot be dismissed without your sending in a note to the teacher or notifying the office before students’ scheduled lunch times. Buses are held until all children are accounted for, impacting the timely departure of the buses and students’ arrival time at home. This is just a reminder that notification of a change in transportation must be received the morning of the change. Thank you in advance for helping us to keep “Memorial kids” safe.
From the Nurse: All medication required during school hours is to be brought to the school by an adult parent/guardian. Children are not to bring their own medicine, prescription or over the counter to school. All medication -- both prescribed and over the counter -- needs to be in properly labeled packaging.A signed order form from you health care provider is also required for each medication. Medication order forms can be obtained in the Nurse’s office or online at the Burlington Schools website. Please call Lynne Sakey, RN at 781-270-1724 if you have any questions.
Returning to school after an illness: Children who have been out ill need to be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please adhere to this standard as cold and flu season has already begun at Memorial School. The best way to combat all communicable disease is to wash your hands frequently throughout the day, especially before eating. Cough into the crook of your elbow and not your hands to eliminate the transmission of illness.
Happenings Around Town:
BECC Open House for the 2016-17 School Year:
The Burlington Early Childhood Center (BECC) will be hosting an Open House for new students on Friday, January 22, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The BECC is an integrated public preschool for children ages 3-5. We support children of all abilities in both general education and special education settings. We also provide support in the areas of speech-language, motor, and social skill development.
Our Open House will provide families with an opportunity to view our programs, meet the teachers, and pick up registration packets to enroll their children for the 2016-2017 school year. Students must be 3 years old by August 31, 2016 to be considered for enrollment for the fall of 2016.
For more information about registration/Open House, please call 781-270-1808. For more information about our program, please visit the Burlington Early Childhood Center Website The BECC is located in Burlington High School at 123 Cambridge St. Our entrance is at the back of the building between the two playgrounds.
