FROM the OFFICE
Dear Families,
Some
of us thought it might never happen, but spring has finally sprung here
in Burlington. Forsythia is in bloom, tulips and daffodils have burst
forth from their bulbs, and flip-flops have appeared on many happy feet
here at school. Fun as they may be to wear, they are not an appropriate
and safe foot covering for phys. ed. or recess. If your child is a
flip-flop fan, please make sure that they also bring sneakers to school
so they can participate in recess and physical education activities
safely! Thank you for your support in keeping ‘our kids’ safe.

FROM the OFFICE
Dear Families,
It
is that time of year when we begin to create new class lists for the
2013-14 school year. Creating these lists is a complex, thoughtful, and
collaborative process that involves a variety of components and
perspectives. Classroom, guidance, reading, and special education staff
assist the principal in developing class lists for the upcoming school
year. Your perspective as a parent is part of the placement process as
well. The Student Information Form, sent home in today’s backpack folder,
has been designed to provide an opportunity to share your perspective
regarding your child’s academic, social, and emotional strengths and
needs. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please return the Student Information Form to Memorial School by Thursday, April 25th, as the process will get underway shortly thereafter.
With warm regards,
Mrs. Rickershauser
Changes in School Supplies for Next Year
Unlike
past years, parents will no longer be asked to provide school supplies
for their child(ren). Necessary school supplies will be purchased for
students by the school. You may have received an order form in your
child’s backpack folder recently and perhaps even placed an order
online. If that is the case, please notify Rhonda Poirier at rnrpear@rcn.com and you will receive a refund for the order you placed.

Playground Mystery Solved
April 11, 2013
Dear Families,
Last week during one of our recess periods, a car was observed pausing in the area of the playground and appeared to be taking photographs. Before a staff member could reach the car, it exited the property and drove away from the school. A call was placed to the Burlington Police Department shortly afterwards to report the incident.
We have since learned that the car belonged to a Daily Times photographer, familiar to us all as Rick Karwan. The photograph he took that day appeared on the front page of Tuesday's newspaper (April 9th).
We are very glad to have solved the 'mystery,' and apologize for any alarm or concern this may have caused your child or your family.
Focused on keeping Memorial kids safe,

FROM the OFFICE
Hello Everyone,
This is a repeat of last
week’s note re: safety. It is in again
this week because many boys and girls shared that they had not had
conversations with their families about #2 (below).
SAFETY FIRST - PLEASE! School Safety Officer (of the BPD) Bernie
Schipelitti visited Memorial the other day, and expressed concern regarding
several very important safety matters:
1) “Walker” Families
- 1)Follow the established traffic pattern in the drop off/pick up area; 2)
Drive slowly to avoid personal injury or property damage; 3)‘Buckle up’ before
leaving home; 4) No cell phones, please.
2) “Bus” Families -
Families, remind your children to gather at the bus stop in a safe manner; no
need to be ‘first’ in line - there is room on the bus for everyone! At the end of the day, they are to go
DIRECTLY home when they are dropped off unless they are otherwise directed by
you. While on the bus, students must: 1)
Remain seated; 2) K/1 students at the front of the bus; 2/3 in the middle; 4/5
at the back; 3) Use quiet voices, and kind and respectful words only. Following these bus rules will allow the
driver to keep his/her eyes on the road and get everyone to and from school
safe and sound.
As
always, thank you for your support! -- Mrs.
R.
