Kindergarten Costumes
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Halloween!

Fall into Vocabulary parade

We started a new tradition here at Memorial! Each student decorated a pumpkin with a vocabulary word from their classroom learning.  First graders wrote nouns, second graders wrote
adjectives, third graders wrote verbs, fourth graders wrote math words and fifth graders wrote science words on their own pumpkins.  At 10:00 am the fifth graders started a "train" with the other grades following down the hallway to the cafe where all of the pumpkins were displayed in the windows. Our Pumpkin parade was a huge success! All the children were excited to find their pumpkins at lunch today. Please stop by to see the hard work that went into creating the pumpkin patch!

RtI

I had the privilege of attending and presenting at an RtI conference with my elementary principal colleagues.  There were a wide variety of presenters at the conference and an abundance of important information to bring back to the Burlington school community. Please join us at the Burlington PAC meeting this Monday October 21, 2013 at 7 pm in the School Committee Room for a presentation which will review how RtI is being implemented in the Burlington school system.  The goals include a common instruction and planning time for all grade levels, universal screenings (math and reading) to identify each student's learning profile, systems to monitor student progress and evidenced based interventions to meet each student's needs.  All parents/guardians are WELCOME!

Note Required for a Change in Dismissal Plans
In the interest of safety, on any day that a child’s routine transportation plans are altered, a note must be written and signed by a parent or guardian to the classroom teacher to describe the change.  Occasionally an emergency situation arises during the day that necessitates a change.  If such an emergency should arise and it is necessary to change your child’s transportation plans during the school day, please contact the office by phone (781-270-1721) before your child’s scheduled lunchtime to ensure that his or her teacher receives the information. (Do not call the teacher directly, or email requests, as these messages may not be received before the end of the day.) Please understand that due to the busy-ness of dismissal time and our concern about student safety, students can not be dismissed without your sending in a note to the teacher or notifying the office before students’ scheduled lunch time. Buses are held until all children are accounted for, impacting the timely departure of the buses and students’ arrival time at home.  Thank  you in advance for helping us to keep “Memorial Kids” safe by informing us of changes well before dismissal time.
