International Fair

We have so much to be grateful for this year, with our beautiful new building and an expanded school family too. Our heritage is a diverse one, and this year’s spring concert (May 10th) and Art Show/Pancake Breakfast (May 19th) will reflect and celebrate that. Several years ago, we combined an International Fair with our Art Show and Pancake Breakfast, and it was a memorable morning for us all. This year, we would like to put together an International Fair that would take place on a school day during the month of May or June, and we need your help! If you are interested in helping to plan and organize it, have an idea to share, or know of a resource for a ‘stop’ on our students’ “tour,” please contact the PTO Enrichment Chair Donna Noonan at 781-272-7160 or donnanoonan@hotmail.com.

OUTDOOR RECESS

Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately (hat, mittens, winter jacket) for outdoor play at recess. The children will be going out each day, unless temperatures are unreasonably cold. Playing on the equipment after a recent snow can be a somewhat soggy experience, Wearing snow pants in snowy weather, or keeping an extra pair of pants and socks in his or her locker, will make for a more comfortable after-recess experience!

FROM THE PTO

There will be a PTO meeting on Thursday, February 2nd at 7pm in the Memorial School library.

5TH GRADE “MEMORY BOOK” This is an exciting time for our children as they enjoy their last year at Memorial School. We are in the process of creating a Memory Book and our focus is on gathering photographs for it. If you have photos of our current 5th graders from grades k-5 – individual, small group, or large group – at Memorial or a previous school – sharing them with us will help to make the book even more special for our fifth graders. We will be taking pictures of the fifth graders at school for their personal memory book page, but we also ask that you send in a baby picture or toddler picture and a favorite photo of themselves from any time or place or age (vacation/school/sports, etc.). We ask that you send in the pictures by March 1st in order to get them formatted into the Memory Book. (Please see today’s backpack folder for additional information.)

If you would like to be involved in the Memory Book Committee, please contact Susan Lavacchia at gnLsue@hotmail.com. Thank you for your help and cooperation in making this year’s Memory Book an extra-special one for the first fifth grade class to “graduate” from the new Memorial School! -- Fifth Grade Memory Book Committee

FROM THE PTO

Pizza Movie Night (Friday, January 27th) has been a treasured tradition at Memorial for many years. It offers children an opportunity to spend time with peers during after-school hours and parents an opportunity for a quiet dinner together. This year, there will be two ‘sittings’ – one running from 4:45 to 7:30, the other from 5:45 to 8:30. There are a limited number of tickets, and they are available on a first come first serve basis. Order forms went home in last week’s backpack folders. Download it, or register and pay online at www.memorialschoolpto.org.

5TH GRADE “MEMORY BOOK” COMMITTEE This is an exciting time for our children as they enjoy their last year at Memorial School and prepare to move on to middle school. Special events and projects are planned for the coming months such as a Moving Up Ceremony, an all-day picnic in June, and the creation of a special Memory Book. At this stage, our focus is on gathering photographs for the Memory Book. If you have photos of our current 5th graders from grades K-5 – individual, small group, or large group -- at Memorial or a previous school -- sharing them with us will help to make the book even more special for fifth graders and their families.

There are several ways to share them. One way is to send them in to your child’s classroom teacher in an envelope marked ‘Memory Book’ with your child’s name, room number, and contact number on the envelope. Another way is to burn the photos onto a CD or save them on a thumb drive (any format will work). Please be sure to label all photos, CDs or thumb drives with your child's full name so that they may be returned to you. If you would like to be involved in the Yearbook Committee, please contact Susan Lavacchia. Thank you for your help in making this year’s Memory Book an extra-special one for our first year at the New Memorial!
